Estes Park Marathon Needs Volunteers
Please volunteer to help with the 16th Annual Estes Park Marathon and Half Marathon, 10K and 5K races on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
This large annual race is hosted by the Estes Park Running Club, and proceeds from the race support youth sports in Estes Park.
We can use all the volunteers we can get! Your assignment will usually be for only 2 hours on race day. If you can only help the day before, June 15, we can use help with race set up, too.
The full and half marathons start at the Dao House on Hwy 7, with staggered starts for walkers-only at 5:30am, the full marathon runners at 6:00am, and the half runners at 6:30am. On race day we need help from 4:00am with loading the shuttle buses at the high school, to Noon-ish and even later, all about 2 hour shifts each. We especially need "road marshals", who direct the runners where to go along the courses, especially where there are turns. Bring a folding chair for the expected gaps between runners, but you will need to stand and occasionally yell, for example: "Turn here!"..."Move to the side of the road!"..."Stay on the trail!"..."Full marathoners go right, Half runners, go straight!", while eyeing the color of their bibs to give the correct instruction. All of the races finish on the high school track.
Volunteers will report to the high school between 9 and 11:30 am the day before the race, June 15, to pick up their instructions and a map of exactly where they are to stand, a volunteer T shirt, orange vest, and last-minute instructions.
Race day is also Father's Day, which affects some people's plans, however, volunteers can complete their duties early, or join us in the early afternoon to help "sweep" the course for debris, cones, signs, etc. and to "break down" the set ups.
Alternatively, if you want to run or walk one of the 4 race distances, please register on our website.
If anyone has questions, they can email me, Ann Wise, EPM Volunteer Director, at volunteer@epmarathon.org. I am also a member of Newcomers.

PRESIDENT’S POST: The Challenge
Great Member Experience.
Those words go back almost a year. They were the challenge I set out for our new Board at the first gathering last June.
And a challenge it was - no single person, no single idea, no single decision would achieve that goal alone.
Looking back, I see so many instances where an issue or opportunity was turned into a success by those who rose to this challenge.
I very much want to elaborate on those successes, but I will save that for the May General Meeting. I hope all of you plan to join us in the celebration of the Newcomers 2018-2019 year.
In the meantime, I would like to recognize those 57 people that pursued Great Member Experience this year.

This will be the last President's Post I have the privilege of composing. Certainly a bittersweet moment.
It truly has been a great experience for me to serve the Club this past year as President. Making new friends and working alongside such outstanding people who contributed to the experience of so many others - it doesn't get any better than that.
I thank each of you for the honor.
FROM THE BOARD: Our Membership Year Is Changing
Membership Renewal Process for 2019-2020
One of the key provisions in the updated Newcomers Bylaws moves the membership year to July 1 - June 30. This change was intended to create a better transition from one set of officers to the next, facilitate event and activities planning, expedite Interest Group signups, and allow for an earlier start to our year.
This is what you need to know about how the change will impact you:
- You can check your account status online on the ABOUT YOU page from the Newcomers website. (If you're not already signed in, first select the green MEMBER SIGN IN button to sign in with the email of your primary contact, then that option will appear). If you have not already renewed, you will see that your membership payment was due on July 1st:
- Renewing your membership can most easily be accomplished online, by selecting the "Pay Online" option and completing the form with your credit card information.
- Mail-in payments will be accepted also, by selecting the "Pay by Check" option and mailing in your check for $30.
- To make this transition easy for everyone, a 60-day grace period will be observed, starting July 1, so that everyone can continue to enjoy Club events and activities through the summer. All members will receive renewal reminders by email during this time.
- Active members who have not renewed by September 1, 2019, will be considered inactive and no longer eligible to participate in Club events and activities.
In the past, many members renewed their memberships and signed up for Interest Groups at the September General Membership meeting. With this change, you must renew your membership BEFORE you can register for the September meeting.
It is important to note that the change to the membership year does not affect the Club's General Membership Meeting schedule - those events will continue from September through May, as in past years.
