The Fourth Annual Newcomers Tailgate Picnic for members, prospective members and alumni will be Friday, August 12th at the O’Connor Pavilion on Fish Hatchery Road from 3:30 – 7:30pm. Since football season is upon us, feel free to wear your team colors and let’s find out who you’ll be rooting for this fall.
You’ll want to wear tennis shoes and bring sunscreen if you plan to participate in the games we have available – volleyball, horseshoes, ladder ball and bocce ball. Or you can hike on the trail leading out of the pavilion, fish (with a valid Colorado license) or take a self-guided tour through the Hydroplant, founded by F.O. Stanley in 1909 to provide electricity to the Estes Valley.
It’s a beautiful setting with more than enough covered seating, so we will have the picnic rain or shine. We’ll be serving BBQ brisket and pulled pork, along with veggie burgers – prepared by our resident BBQ smokers in the club. We’ll also have water, lemonade and ice on hand to quench your thirst.
We are also asking you to bring a side dish, appetizer or dessert and each person will be assigned a category based on their last name. Additionally, you’ll need to bring your own picnic dishes, cups, silverware and adult libations of choice. In the spirit of protecting our mountain environment, we are working toward having zero-waste events, minimizing paper and plastic waste. We hope you’ll support this effort as well.
The cost will be $10 per person and you will have to register and pay online before the event. Please register by Friday, August 5 so meats can be ordered.
The picnic is open to members, prospective members, alumni and guests 18 years old and over.
Your Newcomers “We Believe in Estes Park” planning team and other town organizations have been hard at work to come up with COVID-safe activities this holiday season. In the past, members and alumni have generously given their time to support We Believe and the many events that happen around town during the holiday season. This year we have many opportunities to spread Christmas joy in our valley and the need for volunteers is as great as ever. All the details can be found on our webpage dedicated to all the We Believe activities. Be sure to catch the video of our own Cowboy Brad singing Estes Park Christmas.
For those who may be new to town and Newcomers, “We Believe in Estes Park” is a community outreach project of the Estes Park Newcomers Club. Since 2018, the Club has partnered with the Town of Estes Park to celebrate the holiday spirit, while supporting several local non-profit organizations that support our mountain community. This is where our Members come in - there are many fun opportunities to partner with fellow Newcomers to bring the Holiday cheer to our town. From dressing up as elves and toy soliders to walk alongside the Newcomers float in the annual Catch the Glow Parade to writing letters from Santa to children in town, there are many ways to get involved and have fun.
We hope you will consider volunteering your time for some of these activities and helping our community find joy at the end of another crazy year. If you are interested in any of these opportunities to support our town, you can sign up here. If you have questions, please email the We Believe team at webelieve@estesparknewcomers.org
