David Wolf, Fire Chief of the Estes Valley Fire Protection District, was the guest speaker at the Newcomers Club General Meeting on September 16, 2021.
In his presentation, Chief Wolf gave an introduction on the Estes Valley Fire Department. He talked about the history of Fire in the Estes Valley. Larimer County is home to three of the five largest fires in state history, with the High Park Fire in 2012 and the many fires of 2020. Wildfire is a natural process in this part of the world, so it’s up to us to understand it and learn how to safely live in the wildland urban interface. This presentation provided some background on our fires last Fall and their management and discusses the potential impacts from those fires to the Estes Valley. More importantly, the presentation discussed the next fire – the one that hasn’t started yet. How can we be prepared for such an event, and what can we start doing now?
