SAVE THE DATE for the Newcomers Summer Picnic!
THE FIRST EVER NEWCOMERS PICNIC - Sunday August 26th
You’ve asked for it, and now it’s here -- the first Newcomers joint picnic with our Alumni!
On Sunday August 26th from 3:00 - 6:00 pm we will convene at the O’Connor Pavilion on Fish Hatchery Road for games, fishing, barbecue and lots of fun. The pavilion has plenty of covered seating, so regardless of the weather, we can gather for a great afternoon of catching up with old friends and making new ones. Mark your calendars today - details will follow as we get closer.
Coming To A Theatre Near You…
For those of you ladies who loved “Mamma Mia,” the 2008 musical starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, you’re going to really love “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” which opens in late July. We are holding two dates for Newcomers ladies to see this much-anticipated sequel at the Reel Mountain Theater - either July 23rd or July 30th (depends on release). And sorry guys, but this one's for ladies only. We should know by mid-July when the theater is actually getting the movie. As an extra treat, Sherry Unruh has graciously offered her home for a showing of the first “Mamma Mia” the day before going to see the sequel. So mark your calendars and watch for more details!
And just so the guys don't feel left out - while the ladies are singing and dancing at “Mamma Mia,” the guys will be having their own fun at some of Estes Park’s finest drinking establishments. We are planning a "pub crawl", including The Barrel, Rock Cut Brewery and Estes Park Brewery - all within walking distance of each other. So plan on dropping the ladies at Reel Mountain and then joining your fellow Newcomers buddies for an evening of live music and local brews!
New Interest Group Forming: Taste Trekkers
Introducing a new special interest group...Taste Trekkers.
We’ll go in the back door, and tromp thru kitchens, barns, fields, distilling rooms, and sit around the tables of our hosts. We want to enjoy tasty grub and drink but also want to better understand the food world around us. These treks will be adventurous, sometimes edgy, sometimes unpredictable, always memorable, and will be designed to take away a richer understanding of both the local people and our world through its food.

A Special Opportunity For Newcomers: Behind-The-Scenes Tour and Hike of Hermit Park
The Estes Valley Land Trust has extended a special offer to Newcomers members who are also members of the Land Trust. They are sponsoring a free outing on July 12th, which includes a hike of the new Moose Meadow or Limber Pine trails at Hermit Park. A Larimer County official will be on hand to talk about the new trails and future trail development. The Land Trust is covering the entrance fee and the fee for their annual picnic that starts at 5:30pm.
You may recall that the Estes Valley Land Trust was the featured program at the Newcomers monthly meeting this last March. If you have subsequently joined the Land Trust (or would still like to, and join online), this is an opportunity to reserve a spot for a behind-the scenes hike of some of the beautiful open spaces of Hermit Park.
Jeffrey Boring, Executive Director of the Land Trust, commented "So, you hike for a few hours, get a behind-the-scenes tour of Hermit, have a hotdog and ice cream picnic with about hundred other EVLT members and watch a raptor program. All for joining the land trust. Pretty cool day!"
We’re limiting the hike to 12 people. Once I have a final list of participants, I’ll follow up with an email with all the details."
If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact Jeffrey at jeffrey.boring@evlandtrust.org, to register for the event.
