The new Golf Interest Group was forced to take a mulligan on their first outing planned for September 8th when our valley was blanketed with snow. Apparently it is hard to find a golf ball when it lands in 12" of fluffy white powder!! But the members of this group took the opportunity to practice their swings and hit the 9 hole course the following week for another successful Newcomers event.
Now, you may have noticed that recently the 9 hole course is undergoing some work - the parking lot is torn up and the greens are fenced off. And, at last count, the fairways are occupied by approximately 200 elk. Luckily, we have two golf courses in Estes Park and the 18 hole course is still open. So the Golf Interest Group has shifted their plans once again to provide opportunities for our members to get active and connect with others who enjoy the sport.
On October 14th and 28th, Newcomers will meet at the 18 hole course to play nine holes. Tee times will be between 9-10 AM. The deadline for the first outing is October 7th. Click here to register or visit the calendar on the Estes Park Newcomers website. If you have not joined the Golf Interest Group and would like to receive regular updates from the Group leader, you can sign up here.
If you are a scratch golfer, a middle handicapper or new to the sport, the Golf Interest Group is a great way to meet others who enjoy fairways and greens. We hope to see you on the links!
As the crisp autumn air arrives in the Rocky Mountains, I am reminded of the anticipated transition from summer to fall. While the trees, mountains, and streams prepare for their winter slumber, the mountains come alive with their spectacular display of colors. There is a renewed sense of energy and excitement in the air. Like many of you, I look forward to campfires, caramel apples, cookouts, the wildlife, and gathering with our friends to enjoy the magic of this season.
One of the highlights of the fall season is our first General Membership Meeting of the Newcomer year. After careful consideration and deliberation, the Board has decided to offer our members the opportunity to attend this event and celebrate reconnecting with fellow Newcomers. The process by which we arrived at this decision involved consideration of the size of the venue, adequate spacing, and the ability to adhere to the Larimer County Indoor Events Requirements. Additionally, a variance was filed with Larimer County and was approved for Newcomers to conduct this event.
The September General Meeting will be held Thursday, September 17th, 5-8pm
Dao House Conference Center (Longs Peak Room), 6120 Hwy 7, Estes Park
Due to limited Wi-Fi capabilities, we will not be able to offer the presentation portion of this meeting through Zoom technology, however we will make every attempt to record the presentation and post on our Facebook Page.
We realize not everyone is ready to engage in large group activities. For those who are, we are excited to provide you with this opportunity, and want you to feel comfortable in knowing that we are taking every precaution to keep our members safe and provide an enjoyable experience.
Throughout this COVID-19 crisis, the Board has focused our efforts on providing our membership with opportunities that we “Can Do,” and removing from our calendar those activities that have been suspended. For those who feel comfortable with small group activities, our calendar is full of activities that have been phased in over the past few weeks. These activities are limited to 10 people or less and have been well attended. For members who are not ready to participate in group activities, we have several activities offered through Zoom technology.
One positive outcome from this crisis is the realization of just how much we need and can depend on our fellow Newcomers during this challenging time. Our Membership Committee has taken the initiative to provide additional support to our members through expansion of our Member Care opportunities. More information will follow on this initiative in the next few weeks.
This is an important time of the year for the Estes Park Newcomers Club where we ask our membership’s support in renewing for the upcoming year. If you have not done so already, please consider supporting this great community tradition by renewing your membership and joining us for another great year!
Join us on September 17th for our first General Meeting of the new fiscal year!
The event will be held at the Dao House from 5-8P in the Long’s Peak Room. Staying true to our mission of keeping members safe while enjoying Newcomer activities, we have worked closely with the staff at the Dao House to ensure that this event will be in line with the COVID guidelines created by our club task force.
The guest speaker will be our very own president, Debbi Stalder. Cost for the event which includes dinner is $34. Menu selection includes chicken (or vegetarian option), salad, rice or quinoa, mixed vegetables, bread and dessert. Please specify your menu preference when registering. If you have other dietary restrictions, please make a menu selection and then email registration@estesparknewcomers.org with more information.
The deadline to register is September 10th and attendance will be limited per our guidelines regarding in-person activities. Don’t delay and reserve your spot today by clicking here.
