Trail Ridge Quilters will hold a fundraising sale of handcrafted items on Tuesday, November 12th from 11am to 2pm at Estes Park Health in the Longs Peak and Meeker conference rooms, 555 Prospect Avenue in Estes Park.
Hundreds of gorgeous items will be available for purchase, including large quilts, baby quilts, wall hangings, table runners, placemats, napkins, potholders, soft children’s books, holiday items and much more! These beautifully handcrafted items make great gifts.

On Thursday, October 17, the Estes Park Newcomers Monthly Meeting was held at American Legion Post 119, and we used that opportunity to highlight a donation made to the Legion.
Last year the Newcomers highly successful “We Believe” project during the holiday season, as well as some other special events, resulted in a surplus of funds, which the Board voted to broaden the Club’s community outreach. The American Legion is working on a capital campaign this year to upgrade their historic post facility in order to better serve local veterans, youth, and the entire community. The kitchen, restrooms, parking, and overall structure are in need of renovation, and the Newcomers are proud to participate!
In the photo (left to right), Newcomers President Danny Gigax and Treasurers Sunny Schmitt and Stan Osborne (both Legion members) present a $1000 donation to Post Adjutant Richard Erbe and Events Coordinator Laurie Goff.
Newcomers is a wonderful organization made possible only because of the dozens of members who have volunteered their time and talent in some type of leadership capacity. Would you consider volunteering for a leadership role in Newcomers, perhaps in your favorite Interest Group? We'll help you get started!
If you enjoy a particular Interest Group, you might ask the leader if he or she needs help. Duties generally include setting up the monthly meeting, finding a venue, and emailing your members with specific details and reminders each month. Many Interest Groups meet in member homes, and others in community meeting rooms or local restaurants. Some of our groups simply gather in the great outdoors. Giving back feels good, and fun is guaranteed!
The Newcomers Tech team and Interest Group Coordinators are here to provide guidance, support, and technical tools to assist each group leader. As with all of Newcomers, it is truly a team effort.
Do you have a particular interest that doesn’t fit with any of the current groups? Many of our groups started when a Newcomer volunteered to lead a based on his or her special talents and interests. Some ideas to consider might be karaoke, fly tying, or country line dancing - just to name a few! If you’re interested in learning more, please contact your Interest Group Coordinators, Lisa Fulton and Caity Leeds, at InterestGroups@EstesParkNewcomers.org. We would love to welcome you as part of our team!

Interest Groups are one of the most popular and diverse of all the Newcomers activities. Watch this short video to learn how you can discover and join Interest Groups online.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), the 2018-2019 avalanche season was one for the history books. New avalanche paths were created; roads, buildings, power and gas lines were damaged or destroyed; and 136 people were caught in avalanches resulting in eight fatalities. What does the 2019-2020 season have in store for us? No one may be able to answer that question, but what we can do is become better prepared to recreate in winter conditions and in potential avalanche terrain.
The Adventure Hiking Group meets on the first Friday of each month. In lieu of a hike on November 1, the Group invites all Estes Park Newcomers Club members to join us for an Avalanche Awareness presentation and discussion. The approximately 90 minute presentation will take place Friday November 1, 2019 at 4:30 pm in the US Bank Community Room (east of the library at 363 East Elkhorn Ave).
Tom Chapel, the Adventure Hiking Group leader will conduct the presentation, and will be available for questions and answers afterwards. In addition to being an avid backcountry skier and mountaineer, Tom is a Life Member and Snow Leader with Larimer County Search and Rescue (LCSAR). He has Level 2 avalanche certification through the American Institute for Avalanche Education (AIARE), and conducts snow safety education and training programs for LCSAR and the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC).
This presentation is intended to introduce outdoor enthusiasts of all levels to the concepts of safe winter travel and avalanche avoidance. Using slides and visual aids, Tom will discuss winter gear and preparedness, provide information for evaluating snow conditions and terrain, describe safe travel habits, and present some basic concepts of snow science and companion rescue. Please mark your calendar and RSVP online as space is limited.
Ladies BUNCO is every 4th Tuesday of the month. What qualifications are needed???? NONE! This is a rowdy fun group of women that love to laugh and roll some dice. No skill is needed, and a $5 entry fee allows a pot of money to be won in three categories: most BUNCOS, most wins, and most losses. We play a total of three games of six rounds each. There is a minimum of 12 ladies needed and no maximum.
Don’t be shy if you haven’t played before. This game is quick and easy, and you’ll have an opportunity to chat with different women every round. Just sign up on the Newcomer’s website, and Linda Fromholzer, our wacky leader, will email you with all the info each month. An RSVP is required to ensure we have the minimum number players and plenty of snacks.
We currently meet at the Estes Park Library in the Hondius Room on the main level. Plan to arrive at 6:15pm so you can mingle and enjoy snacks brought by designated players (bring your own drink of choice). We begin playing at 6:30 and end at 8:00.
