Interest Groups


Newcomers Club members make new friends when they gather to learn new skills and engage in enjoyable activities.  There are daytime and evening groups; groups for singles and couples, men and women; groups that gather during the week and others that meet on weekends.  Current Interest Groups are listed below.  This is a work in progress, so check back often!  Call Sally at 577-1527or Linda at 813-300-2270

Eating and Parties 

Dining In, Singles and Couples – Usually 1st Saturday, in member’s homes.  Members take turns hosting small groups for dinner.  Libby and Dennis, 586-1615, or Gwenda and Larry, 481-2860.

Dining Out In Estes – 4th Friday.  Small groups of 8 -10 sample local restaurants, gathering in member’s homes for appetizers or dessert.  Richard, 586-4219. 

Lunch Bunch – 2nd Friday.  Group meets at smaller restaurants for lunch and socializing.  Paul, 586-3862. 

Men’s Breakfast – 1st Tuesday of first full week of month at 8:30 AM.  Meet for coffee and breakfast in local restaurants.  Dave , 586-6413. 

Wine and Cheese – 3rd Saturday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.  Members host events in member’s homes.  Bring a beverage of choice for personal consumption and an appetizer to share.  Club provides plates, cups, utensils, etc.  Betty, 586-3862. 

Cards and Games 

Couples Bridge – Fridays at 7:00 PM, usually twice a month, in member’s homes.  Chris, 303-903-5533. 

Ladies Daytime Bridge I – 1st Wednesday at 1:00 PM, in member’s homes.  Sandy, 586-3478, or Naomi, 577-0166. 

Bridge Lessons – Starting January ’10, beginning level classes using  "Bidding in the 21st Century”.  John, 577-0657. 

Bunco – 4th Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the US Bank Community Room.  Julie, 231-7833.  

Dominos – 2nd Monday at 6:30 PM.  U.S. Bank Meeting Room.  Everyone is welcome, beginners to experts, singles and couples. Rhonda, 586-3517.  

Eucher – 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 7:15 PM.  US Bank meeting room.  This is an easy 4-person card game played with a trump similar to Hearts.  Dave & Jane, 577-1600.  

Mah Jongg – 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 1:00 PM. U.S. Bank Meeting Room.  Bea, 480-5030. 

Men’s Poker – 3rd Thursday at 6:30 PM in member’s homes.  Dave, 586-6413. 

Scrabble – 1st Monday at 1:00 PM in member’s homes.  Linda, 586-1708. 

Other Activities 

Daytime Book Club – 1st Monday of the month at 1:00 PM in members homes.  Group selects a book in advance for discussion.  Kathy, 303-887-1722,  

Evening Book Club – 2nd Wednesday at 7:00 PM in member’s homes.  Group selects a book in advance for discussion.  Naomi, 577 0166, and Claudia Menard, 577-1099. 

Bowling – Thursdays at 3:00 PM.  Estes Park Recreation Center.  Social bowlers, beginners to experts, singles or couples. Debbie, 577-1105,  

Happy Hikers, Couples and Singles – 1st Thursday at 9:00 AM.  Information on each month’s hike appears on the website and is e-mailed to group members.  Bob, 586-3455,  John, 577-0657, Jeff, 577-1265. 

Holiday House Craft Group – 2nd and 4th Mondays at 1:00 PM.  Meeker Room, EPMC.  Craft-making for the Holiday House Craft Fair in November.  Jackie, 577-0966. 

Trail Ridge Quilters – Tuesdays at 1:00 to 4:00 PM (last Tuesday of the month 9:00 to 11:00 AM).  Longs Peak Room, EPMC.  All levels make items to benefit the EPMC.  Jane, 577-0243. 

Trail Ridge Quilters is a group of local quilters, originally founded in 1991 and supported by Estes Park Newcomers’ Club, who meet weekly in the Longs Peak Conference Room at the Estes Park Medical Center on Tuesdays from 1-4 pm except the last Tuesday of the month they meet from 9-11 am.  

The group creates and sells a variety of quilted items such as place mats, table runners, Christmas tree skirts, baby and children’s quilts, holiday décor items, wall hangings and other small pieces They are proud to have raised over $23,000 for the Estes Park Medical Center during the past five years.  

In October the group will be doing presentations for the Women’s Club and Estes Valley Quilt Guild which meets the second Wednesday of the month. They will be offering a of a kind quilted door prize by donation at the Newcomers October luncheon. In November the group will offer items for sale at the Hospital and Holiday House.
